Mid-Ocean Ridge

Did you know that Earth’s longest mountain range is underwater? The Mid-Ocean Ridge system is more than 56,000 kilometers (35,000 miles) long and snakes between the continents. It marks the areas where Earth’s crustal plates are moving apart. This is where most hydrothermal vents are located.

The team of scientists taking part in this expedition will stop at three different vent fields—all with memorable names:
